There have been happenings in the garden - the Cherokee Trail of Tears beans are doing quite well. These are a pole bean as well as a dry bean. I will leave them on the vine until they dry and at that time I will harvest and easily open the outer shell revealing the dark black beans inside to save for winter eating. I also have Tiger's Eye and Jacob's Cattle growing - these are dried beans but grow in a bush manner or plant much like your typical green bean plant.
The Pumpkin Pie pumpkins are making their grand appearance and I am excited. This is the first year and I can see they are quite a bit smaller than the typical pumpkin so this should be fun to harvest and make pumpkin pies with ..... stay tuned for that first time experience!
Another first - the Cushaw Squash, a winter squash which grows from 12-18 inches long, averages 10 to 20 pounds and is roughly 10 inches in diameter at the bowl. These are also used to make pumpkin pies so it is looking like there will be a whole lotta pies in my kitchen this fall.
Don't forget to leave your comment for your chance at winning the Gourmet Garlic! Best of luck to you!
